Arte Umbria courses were led by a rotating group of professional painters, sculptors and writers, each bringing a distinct style and teaching approach to the Umbrian countryside. Tutors guided groups through painting, life drawing, stone carving, stained glass, mosaic and creative writing sessions over the course of a week.

Earlier Tutors
From 2011, courses were taught by a founding group of tutors:
- Andrew James — born 1969, based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, UK.
- Mark Kelland — based in Stroud, Gloucestershire.
- Ursula Sykes — held a City and Guilds 730 Teaching Certificate, completed in 2000.
- Art Cunanan — ran an additional course from 1st to 15th October 2011.
Each week at Tenuta di Poggiolame, a different tutor took the lead, bringing their own creative voice to the studio and the surrounding Umbrian landscape. Whether guiding a group through the first strokes of an acrylic landscape, demonstrating the careful rhythm of stone carving, or encouraging hesitant writers to find their words, every tutor shared a common aim: to help participants explore their potential in a supportive, unhurried atmosphere. Small group sizes meant plenty of individual attention, and the mix of disciplines across the season meant that returning guests could try something entirely new on each visit, from stained glass and mosaic to life drawing and illuminated manuscripts, all set against the gentle hills and olive groves of central Italy.
