Courses
Arte Umbria are running even more courses in 2012 because of the number of enquiries we have received !
Our courses are aimed at ALL levels of ability. Several of our courses are called Master Classes. This does not mean you have to be a 'Master Painter' ! These Master Classes are aimed at intermediate or above, and you will be tutored by a well known 'Master' of his or her Art. Total beginners are better suited to our general courses.
We try to limit the number of students to between 6 and 9 to ensure individual attention. Of course partners, or friends, who just want to chill are still welcome at a discounted price. AND still no single person supplement !
We include all we have previously, trips out, a restaurant visit, food, wine, refreshments, accommodation and more !
Painting
Our tutors for the 2012 courses are Andrew James RP, Antony Williams RP, PS, NEAC, Jenny Wheatley RWS, NEAC and Oliver Warman RBA, ROI.
Visiting tutors are Victoria Gamberoni, Anatasia Pollard, Bridget Orlando and Ursula Sykes.
In 2012 Andy is running a Master Class for more experienced oil painters for portraiture.
We are delighted to welcome Antony Williams RP, PS, NEAC for a Master Class in Life and Portrait Drawing for the week commencing 13th June 2012. Antony will be painting as well, and you are welcome to paint as well as draw.
Life Drawing classes will be available for each course.
Specifically aimed at Beginners
These courses run by Ursula Sykes and Bridget Orlando are designed to nurture and encourage debutantes in their chosen medium. They will cover drawing, perspective, the colour palette and observation with the possibiliity of 'life drawing'. There is also an element of art history tuition by our resident historian. On top of all the other inclusive aspects of the other courses, we are including a two day trip to Florence, staying overnight in a 3* hotel, on a Bed & Breakfast basis (travel included). This trip also includes a 3 hour private guided tour covering all the major sites of Florence, the art and history of this incredible city. The opportunity to purchase, in advance, tickets to all the major museums including the Uffizi, Galleria del'Accademia and the Medici private chapel in the Palazzo Medici Riccardi thus avoiding queuing. A magical city to see and sketch in.
Our painting courses in Italy -
All of the tutors are enthusiastic and inspirational practising artists who cater for all abilities, from beginners through to experienced artists, and teach oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel, pen & ink, pencil and charcoal sketching.
The courses are run in a very relaxed and informal atmosphere; you choose the medium you would like to work in and set your own pace. You can paint round the clock or spend afternoons by the pool with every opportunity to eat, drink and socialise.
It is a holiday after all !
On the day of arrival students and tutors get to know one another and familiarise themselves with the surroundings.
The six days of tuition begin the following morning and each day begins with "al fresco" breakfast on the terrace where students and tutors can chat about their plans for the day in a relaxed and inspiring environment.
Starting at 9.00 am with a demonstration by the tutors, painting sessions continue until lunch at 1.00 pm. After a productive morning and delicious lunch painting sessions resume at 2.30pm, finishing at 5.30pm. Dinner is at 8.00 pm.
This gives you 7 hours with the tutors during the day. Between finishing painting and dinner, there is plenty of time to relax - stroll along one of the many trails on the estate, perhaps resting under a pergola sipping wine, or take a (further) dip in the swimming pool overlooking the valley.... Or you can simply carry on painting !
For all our Life and Portrait courses, we are lucky enough to have a professional Life Model !
See our Tutors pages for details about the Tutors and the life drawing and photography classes.
